UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks

Georges St-Pierre will face Johny Hendricks.
Rashad Evans will face Chael Sonnen.
Rory MacDonald will face Robbie Lawler.
Will Campuzano will face Sergio Pettis.

This all will happen this weekend. You heard me right, all of this will happen in the same event!
Don't get me wrong, there are many fights worth watching, but these four got my attention. If I remember correctly, Alistair Overeem was to face Frank Mir this weekend too, but the fight was moved to another card. That fight would have gotten my attention too.

From these four fights, I would like to give my thoughts and predictions.

Will Campuzano vs. Sergio Pettis
Will Campuzano will face Sergio Pettis in the UFC bantamweight. This fight will be Sergio's debut, but Campuzano has fought in the UFC three years ago, but his record in the UFC is everything but impressive, 0-2, and UFC & WEC combined, his record is 1-3.
Sergio has fought nine times, winning every one of them. He has shown to be able to win in every way, because he has won by submission hold, knockout and decision. Three times with each.
This fight should go for Sergio, especially since Campuzano had very short preparation, but will Will's will, age and experience in the UFC give him the edge over young and untested prodigy?
I don't think so.

Sergio Pettis will win by Technical Knockout in the first round after dropping Will Campuzano with a body blow and finishing him on the ground.

Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler
Robbie Lawler will try to end Rory MacDonald's five fight win streak in the third fight of the main card. Robbie Lawler will try to end this with his big punching power, but as a neutral spectator I say that he will not be able to do that. Like Sergio Pettis, Rory is young for a fighter but he has experience against elite and he trains with George St-Pierre at the Tristar Gym. I like Robbie, but I don't see his hype to be justified by his actions. He can punch and knock people out, but that is pretty much his arsenal. His biggest achievements in recent times in my opinion are his knockouts over Melvin Manhoef and Josh Koscheck, but against Manhoef he was beaten up like a child until he landed a powerful punch and let's be honest, Manhoef is entertaining and good, but sometimes overaggressive. Koscheck looked off that night but the win was legit, maybe early stoppage but good win regardless.

Now Rory has great striking, but he has good strategy, which is trademark for Tristar's athletes. So don't wait him to hurt Lawler just to run into a big punch. Lawler has nothing over Jake Ellenberger besides his small advantage in reach and Rory handled him easily. MMAthematics don't work perfectly, but Ellenberger is faster, has sharper hands, closes the distance better, has good wrestling and has just as much, if not more power, and couldn't touch Rory.
There are three things that can give the fight for Lawler and they are either big punch landing when Rory makes mistake, Rory being sick or Rory trying to show that he is not boring (his fight against Jake was claimed to be boring) and becoming too aggressive.

If that does not happen, Rory MacDonald will control the distance with jabs, kicks and occasionally outwrestle Robbie Lawler and win either by third round finish or by very clear decision.

Rashad Evand vs. Chael Sonnen
Chael Sonnen will try to outwrestle Rashad Evans, who will try to outstrike Chael Sonnen. There are two things to understand. First, Rashad has overrated wrestling. Yes, he can shoot for a takedown like a lightning bolt, but he is very one dimensional wrestler. Second, Chael has great jaw and can defend strikes very well. Despite of Rashad being from heavier weight class, Chael the has edge in strength while Rashad has the edge in speed. Chael will take Rashad down multiple times, but Rashad will be hard to keep on his back. First round is worst for Chael and he might lose the fight but I see Chael securing two to five takedowns in the first round and avoiding the strenghts of Rashad. Then he will hold Rashad down for the later rounds. Rashad can win this, but I see Chael's agressiveness being too much for Suga'.

Chael Sonnen will win by decision.

Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks
Georges St-Pierre will try to defend his belt against Johny Hendricks. Will he defend his belt. Yes!
I know I will look like an idiot if Hendricks proves me wrong, but I say he will not be able to do anything in this fight. I said Gustafsson will win Jones and I said Weidman will win Anderson, but I will not say Hendricks will win Georges. I just don't see it happening. I go as far as saying that Georges is greatest fighter ever. He knows everything there is to know in MMA and he has shown his value against better opponents than Fedor, Silva, Jones or Aldo. But hey, that's not the subject now.
I see Georges being better in everything except punching power and chin.

Johny looked like crap when punching the mitts. He was really stiff, slow and unorganized looking. He can put Georges out if he lands, but he will not land. Georges is faster, better wrestler, has better condition, better octagon control, strategy and striking. He will not lose if he doesn't slip and get caught or have really bad night. Johny might prove me wrong, but nothing shows me Johny will win him. Georges outwrestled Koscheck and Fitch. He can outwrestle Hendricks. He will jab him and Hendricks will just stand there stiff and looking lost. He will rush then and Georges will take him down. I think that if Georges will finish some fight, it will be this one. TKO or Submission, both are very possible. We know nothing about Hendrick's grappling defense from his back, so Georges might submit him right away. Regardless, Hendricks will gas and might get finished by strikes in the later rounds.

Georges will win by clear decision, fourth or fifth round TKO or by any round submission.

And still....
...welterweight Champion of the world, George 'Rush' St-Pierre!
